Protestors in New York stage ‘die-in’ outside Trump’s skyscrapper
Protesters in New York City gathered outside one of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s skyscrapers on Wednesday to protest his comment, “I can stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody” and not lose support.
The protesters who belonged to an anti-gun violence campaign gathered at Trump’s headquarters for what they called was a ‘die-in’ protest. The covered themselves with white cloth and lied down on the pavement to represent the 90 people who are killed in gun violence every day.
“Ninety a day, no more, no way!” Some held signs that read, “Hey Trump, gun violence is not a joke,” “Not one more [gun death]” and “Love Trumps hate.”
They got up after 10 minutes, but said that they hoped their message to Trump had gotten across.
“We don’t think talking about killing people with a gun is a joke,” Jonathan Perloe, leader of the southwestern Connecticut chapter of the Brady Campaign, told Newsweek. “If he is president, he will be guiding the policies that direct our country.”
“The violent rhetoric of his campaign is abhorrent. We can’t have a man running for president who speaks so glibly about shooting people in the street. I’m just sick of hearing all of the violent rhetoric from his campaign. It’s frightening,” Robin Frank, a participant said, the Newsweek reported.
The protest came a day after residents in five states selected Trump to contest as presidential candidate from the Republican Party.
